1/17/2024 0 Comments Dxo photolab workflow![]() ![]() Pure Raw seems rather limited and pretty expensive so that I might just as well continue with PL5. Its main claim to fame is its exceptional raw processing quality, combined with DxO’s lab-developed lens correction profiles. In particular my Fuji files come out way better in PL5 than in LR. DxO PhotoLab 5 is part raw processing tool and part image editor, with some basic but effective image browsing and organizing tools thrown in. PL5 is more "automatic" with its Smart Lighting and Clear View options (they often deliver nice results, though), and less usable Highlight/Shadow/Black and White controls. As a matter of fact, I do like the way LR edits an image more. But: It also seems that I can just as well start in PL5, apply the basic processing steps (Exposure, WB, Noise and Lens Correction) and then export as JPEG for catalogueing and further edit in LR. ![]() It seems as if LR sends the RAW-file w/o any edits to PL5. If you’re more Lightroom focussed perhaps DXO Pure Raw workflow would be a better fit? When I’m done editing I catalogue the raw files in Lightroom. I can practically smell the air at the finish line. I don’t want Lightroom doing any raw development as DXO’s is far better in my experience at extracting detail and handling any noise. 1 I am on the verge of finally leaving behind subscription software. bFilm sims arent a part of my workflow and I just noticed this but didn. I havent found a way to change to a different film sim in PL. Im certainly not an expert, but I can muddle along well enough to get my pics the way I like them. I have no need or use for Lightroom in addition. For years Ive used DxO PhotoLab and its predecessors to post process my Olympus and Panasonic RAW files. DXO Photolab 5 has been excellent for RAW editing. I also included the Optic corrections in PL and turned them off in LrC. ![]() As for myself I just exported a file from LrC to PL, did the NR thing and then sent it back to LrC. For all of my cameras (excluding my Q2M obviously) I open the raw first in DXO Photolab and do all my edits from there. Go to the DXO site and it will have LrC/PL workflow tutorials. ![]()
